Planting our sunflower seeds

We planted our individual seed pots with a sunflower seed on Friday afternoon.

We used a gardening spade to fill our little pots.

We filled each pot with potting mix almost upto the top.

When we had almost filled it to the top we placed our sunflower seed in the middle of the pot.

Then we gently covered it over with a little more soil and patted it down carefully.

Oops...some potting mix all over our mat!

We helped each other.

Weight and Capacity Wall display

Thought we should take a photo of this before it comes down to be replaced with some of our new Math learning.

We made some scones...we made 1 each.  We followed the recipe carefully...and measured out our ingredients using cups/teaspoons/tablespoons and grams.
We weighed ourselves with the bathroom scales....then each math group added their weights together to calculate a group total.
We used tens and ones to represent our weights.....some of us used our pulling down the tens strategy to calculate our totals...and some of us used a calculator to help us.
We also did a lot of measuring with rice/water/beans.....first we always made a guesstimate ...then we proceded to use our measuring tools to get our accurate answers.

We collected milk containers....about 100 in total. We had 1litre, 2 litre, 3 litre milk containers ....and 500ml, 300ml and 250 ml cream containers.

Thank you Home and School committee

We just want to say a big thank you for the new toys we were able to purchase for our class.  Thanks H.N.P.S Home and School Committee for your kindness.

Making Muffins

Today a group of children from Room 12 went up to make muffins in the staffroom with Cordayne and Raewynn.

We had a recipe for muffins from Mrs Jarvis...but we had a problem  as the recipe only made 12 muffins and we have 23 children in our room.

We discussed what we could do...
should we make 2x of muffins, one after the other?

But our class are such clever mathematicians and we came up with the idea of doubling our recipe... because we know that 12+12=24 which is the same as 2x12=24

So that is what we did!  So then we had 24 muffins to share with everyone.
They were so yum!
